Estray is a Serbian DJ, producer and certified audio engineer, based in Belgrade and on the road more or less permanently. He has been travelling with his music for around fifteen years, and the sound he has built is the residue of that: Afro and Latin drum patterns, dub basslines, and house underneath all of it. He describes his own name as "an animal that has escaped from its owner" — a wandering animal whose owner is unknown.
The dub is not a garnish. His basslines come out of a long attachment to roots music from Jamaica, and they are what hold his sets together when the percussion gets busy. He is a graduate of the SAE Institute with a bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering and Music Production, and he held a DJ residency at Scorpios Mykonos in 2017 and 2018.
He runs his own label, Wanderlust Musica, and has released on Rebellion, Sol Selectas, Buddha Bar, Akumandra, Pipe & Pochet, Cosmic Awakenings, Shango Records, Monada and Lump Records, among others. Three albums so far, plus a long tail of EPs and remixes. He has played across Europe, Asia and South America — Bali Spirit, Exit, Shankra, Quest, Sonica, Arkana, Life Celebration — and shared stages with Bedouin, Blond:ish, Nicola Cruz, Satori, Be Svendsen, Viken Arman, Minilogue, Dub FX and Oceanvs Orientalis.
For Sonic Shift #23 he left the USB sticks at home. The episode is a vinyl-only set: warm dub textures, analog grooves, house swing. No sync, no edits — deep house with roots, minimal dub-tech, and the warmth of wax.
